Pelham Ignites the Elements

MINDSET is excited to introduce a year-long celebration of STEM, inspired by Sam Kean’s fascinating book, The Disappearing Spoon. This initiative shines a spotlight on the fascinating world of chemistry, exploring how the elements of the periodic table play a vital role in our everyday lives. From the materials that build our technology to the atoms that shape our bodies, the elements connect science to every field—including the arts, humanities, and history.

Throughout the year, we’ll explore these connections through hands-on activities, interdisciplinary learning, and meaningful engagement with community partners. Together with local organizations, scientists, artists, and educators, we aim to spark curiosity and imagination in learners of all ages—K–12 students, families, and community members—by showing how science is not just a subject, but a story that touches every part of our lives.
